Victoria Confino, a 14-year-old Sephardic girl from Kastoria, has traveled over the ocean with her family.  She now lives in a three-room tenement apartment at 97 Orchard Street with her parents and five brothers, on Manhattan's Lower East Side in 1916.  There are many choices to make as Victoria learns to balance her traditions from home and learn the culture of her new country.  She even needs to learn a new language, but watching American movies at the theatre with her friends helps!
